Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the legendary sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are what science fiction is all about. Anderson. A prequel to the original Dune, it chronicles how the Sisterhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit.
The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from a so-called “Mentats of Dune.” All three books intertwine the development of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. I don’t want to just criticize the first episode of a TV series, but this was just average on every level. The acting was below average except for a few notable actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the actors looked like they came out of a film academy or something.
I love slow dramas that take forever to unfold because I know the payoff is worth the wait. But this wasn’t just slow, a lot happened, it was just boring, I don’t know how else to say it. The soundtrack that accompanied the films was a bit ripped off here, some familiar sounds popped in here and there but it’s just the timing wasn’t good. Like I’ve heard a lot of music here that had no effect whatsoever.
I remembered how long in films we would just talk to people and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic, and I would just get so pumped up. But I know he didn’t take part in any sound here and I don’t even have to check. I’m not sure if Denis Villeneuve was involved with this production, I hope not. Would an average TV series like this after two epic movies have had an effect on the long-awaited third movie?
The reason I ask is because The Penguin was so good that it made me appreciate The Batman even more than I did after seeing it and I can’t wait for the second movie. So how would Dune: Prophecy have affected the third movie if there is one.
