Amber, an agent of happiness, travels the Bhutanese Himalayas to study people’s happiness. She seeks fulfillment on her remote mountain journey. When I watched Agent of Happiness, I wasn’t sure if it was a satire because calculating the happiness index seems… so simple. I mean, a happiness barometer, if there can be one, is so complex that there are too many things to factor in. It was amazing to see the conversations the two main characters had with people from different walks of life, and the footage of some people being happy at the expense of others within their family. Maybe the moral is that if most things in your life are good enough, you’ll most likely be happy. Although that takes into account the number of cows you own or the latest iPhone. The male lead is charming and I wish I could be as happy as he is in the film, regardless of the sources of his sadness. (Watched at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024.)
