Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb aka The Penguin attempts to take over the criminal underworld in Gotham. Aside from the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got a cameo from Robert Pattinson as The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of the Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but to no avail.
However, in his own series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user who prefers cigars. The umbrella falls over and the logo changes to that of Warner Bros. As seen on The Graham Norton Show: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024).
I thought Colin Farrell was great as the Penguin in Batman, but I never understood why a skinny, handsome, fit actor was cast in the role and given a huge prosthetic leg and a fat suit… especially when I think he looks like some other famous actors who would be just as good. I also didn’t really understand why this spin-off was necessary, and honestly, I’m tired of Batman reboots.
I only watched it because I knew it was a must-watch as a bridge between the first and second movies, and because I unexpectedly enjoyed Farrell in the role in the first movie. The acting is amazing, the script is great, and it surprised me with some quick twists. What I liked most was that there was a lot more color in this than in Batman.
I noticed this almost immediately, as it was a big complaint about the movie for me (I felt like I was watching it through Zack Snyder’s lens).
