A boardroom review provides the table to assess their performance in a holistic manner. It assists tables to identify weaknesses in their leadership relationships and their culture as well as the facets of longevity. It also ensures that the table members who pay for table membership are equipped to fulfill their duties.
This research area is still developing and a variety of problems remain. The current empirical evidence suggests inconsistent results regarding how dissent impacts boards and their function. While some studies report positive (Zona 2016) and curvilinear effects(Zona 2016), others report negative (Brown, Buchholtz and Butts 2019) and non-significant or mixed results (Heemskerk, Heemskerk, and Wats, 2015; Minichilli et al. 2012) interactions between dissent as well as the performance of a board’s task.
Moreover, the existing research literature is not able to provide a more thorough theoretical understanding of what influences the dynamics of disagreement. To increase the understanding of this governance issue, it’s beneficial to create a more theoretically integrated approach. This could include the use techniques that use configuration (Federo & Saz-Carranza, 2018; Schiell, Lewellyn & Yan, 2023) in order to help researchers understand how the attributes of boards, processes and contexts relate necessary and sufficient causality.
Additionally, some studies employ a narrow definition of dissent and do not report precise measurements. These studies are prone to measurement errors. It would be worthwhile to develop more robust measurement techniques for dissent in future studies.
