A two-hour window into the heart of Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process, the documentary follows six long years of work during the making of The Boy and the Stork, the last film by the master of Japanese animation. It was a very moving and funny documentary. Kaku Arakawa takes a close look at Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process during the making of The Boy and the Heron. It beautifully blends scenes from Miyazaki’s films and the real people involved in the making of the film and the people who are/were important to Miyazaki. I saw this film at the Helsinki International Film Festival Love & Anarchy. Some moments had the audience laughing out loud and others had them level-deleted. I hope Miyazaki is able to make more films. I cannot recommend this documentary enough to any Ghibli fan.
